AFR The Danish Prime Minister has made the following statement on the result of the German elections:

“I congratulate the German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder on the election.

I look very much forward to continuing my cooperation with Gerhard Schröder on the many common challenges facing us.

In this connection, I am thinking not least of the upcoming decisions on enlargement of the EU and NATO.

As far as the EU is concerned, we are aiming for a decision to enlarge with up to ten new Member States at the European Council in Copenhagen. We must take the first important steps towards this goal already at the European Council in Brussels on 24-25 October 2002”.
