AFR The Prime Minister and President Valéry Giscard d'E-staing have discussed the future of the EU.

Today, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and the Chairman of the European Convention, former French President, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, have discussed the future of the EU.

The meeting took place at Marienborg, north of Copenhagen. Also participating in the meeting were Minister for European Affairs, Mr. Bertel Haarder, and the Prime Minister’s personal representative in the Convention, Mr. Henning Christophersen.

On the occasion of the meeting the Prime Minister states:

“Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and I have had a very useful and fruitful discussion with particular focus on the co-operation between the Convention and the Danish Presidency.

As was the case at the Summit in Seville, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing will participate in the European Council meetings during the Danish Presidency. As Chairman of the Convention he will report at the meetings on the status of the discussions on the future of the EU. During the Danish Presidency we will also take steps to ensure that the General Affairs Council is kept up to date on the work in the Convention.

I am looking forward to a good co-operation between the Convention and the Presidency on the important question on the future of the EU”
