Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen has accepted an invitation from New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg to take part in a ceremony on 11 September 2002 to commemorate that one year has passed since the terrorist attack on the USA.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Per Stig Møller, will travel to New York in his capacity as President of the EU and as such he will also participate in the opening of the 57th General Assembly of the UN, on which occasion he will address the first session of the Assembly on 12 September 2002.
Minister for Economic and Business Affairs Bendt Bendtsen will represent the Government at memorial events in Denmark.
On 11 September, Minister for European Affairs Bertel Haarder will participate in a memorial ceremony in the European Parliament and a meeting in Brussels arranged by the Belgian Government, in which also the EU Commission will participate.
Further information on commemorative events on 11 September, including events in Denmark, will be made available as soon as possible.
