Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen has just had talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Medgyessy at Marienborg.
After the meeting, the Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen states:
”I have had a very important and constructive meeting with Prime Minister Medgyessy.
Our talks focused on the enlargement of the EU.
They confirmed that Hungary has come a long way in its preparation for membership of the European Union. I am impressed by the progress achieved. Only a few outstanding problems remain. Hungary is in a good position for concluding negotiations during our Presidency. I sincerely hope we will succeed.
The conclusions from the summit in Seville are a good point of departure for the Danish Presidency. The determination to conclude negotiations by end of 2002 was reconfirmed. We now have agreement on a clear timetable for the next months. We must stick to the timetable and conclude by the end of this year. It’s a historic opportunity for Europe. I am confident that we will succeed.”
