AFR Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma's visit to Denmark on 5 July 2002
03.07.02
On 5 July, Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma will pay a bilateral visit to Denmark. He will be received by the Speaker of the Folketing and have political talks with Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen at Marienborg.
On the occasion of the visit, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen states :
”Ukraine is an important co-operation partner for Denmark. During the Danish EU Presidency, we shall endeavour to intensify co-operation between the EU and Ukraine. In connection with this, we shall pay particular attention to the challenges that will arise when Ukraine becomes one of our new neighbours after the enlargement of the EU.
Since Ukraine's independence, our bilateral co-operation has developed at a calm and steady pace, in the field of trade and co-operation in a number of key areas. These include, for instance, agriculture. A large number of Ukrainian agricultural students have been in Denmark to receive further practical training.
It is important for the ongoing development of our co-operation that the pace of reforms in Ukraine should be stepped up, and that Ukraine continues its endeavours to live up to the country's international commitments, including those in the field of human rights”.
The Prime Minister's meeting with President Kuchma will take place at Marienborg, Nybrovej 410 in Lyngby from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
There will be a press conference at 11:30 AM in the court (the weather permitting; alternatively indoors).
There will also be a photo opportunity in connection with the Prime Minister's reception of President Kuchma at 10:30 AM at Marienborg.
Press cards should be worn visibly.
