Today, the Prime Minister of Greenland Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen and the President of the United States Donald Trump signed the agreement, which strengthens security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic area.
Prime Minister of Greenland Jens-Frederik Nielsen states:
”The agreement recognizes that we are a people with the right to self-determination. At the same time, we are recognized as a part of our common security in the Arctic.”
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen states:
”Today, we have signed a good agreement. For Greenland, the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States. And for NATO and Europe. The agreement strengthens our common defence and security. And it is deeply rooted in the NATO Alliance. The agreement acknowledges and respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Greenlandic people’s right to self-determination.”

The signing ceremony took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The United States, Denmark and Greenland will store a signed copy of the agreement in English, Danish and Greenlandic. The agreement will enter into force subject to the necessary national parliamentary procedures.
