Press release
On October 2, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will host more than 50 European heads of state or government and representatives from the EU and international organisations at the European Political Community (EPC) summit. Russia’s war in Ukraine sets the tone for the meeting, and the road to a strong and secure Europe is top of the agenda.
“We have one task ahead of us. We have to make Europe as strong as possible. That calls for unity. Rearmament. Political determination to find solutions across our continent. And a joint understanding of support to Ukraine as an investment in the defence of Europe. Russia’s war in Ukraine was never only about Ukraine. That has become increasingly evident over the last few weeks. Putin will not stop his brutal attacks unless he is forced to,” says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
The EPC convened for the first time in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and presents a platform for political dialogue across the European continent.
At the summit in Bella Center Copenhagen, President Zelenskyy is one of the key note speakers. Additionally, there will be discussions on how to strengthen the support to Ukraine and bolster European security. The Prime Minister will also participate in a roundtable discussion on migration. It is the first time that Greenland and the Faroe Islands participate in the EPC.
