On Tuesday 26 November 2002, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen is to meet the leader of the Turkish Justice and Development Party (the AKP), Mr Tayyip Erdogan, in Denmark.
In connection his visit, Mr Erdogan will also have a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs Per Stig Møller.
On the occasion of the visit, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen states:
”I am looking forward to meeting Mr Tayyip Erdogan. The AKP won the Turkish general election by a wide margin on 3 November. Mr Tayyip Erdogan, as leader of the Turkish AKP, is a highly central figure in Turkish politics and an important actor during the time up to the concluding Summit of the Danish EU Presidency in Copenhagen on 12 and 13 December, at which the EU will have to make decisions on the next phase of Turkey's EU candidature.”
