These Summits, at which the EU is represented by the by the Presidency, the President of the Commission and the Council’s Secretary-General, form part of the dialogue between the EU and countries outside the Community.

On the occasion of the Summit, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen states:

”Ukraine is a country with great potential. Close co-operation between the EU and Ukraine is important not just to the EU and Ukraine, but to all of Europe. The Ukrainian President has clear ambitions for closer co-operation with the EU. We welcome these ambitions, and we intend to intensify this co-operation during the Danish EU Presidency. One precondition for success is greater momentum of reforms in Ukraine.

Once the enlargement of the EU has been implemented, Ukraine will become one of our new neighbours. This will bring new challenges to our co-operation.”
